What does Affirmative relief mean in American Law?
The definition of Affirmative relief in the law of the United States, as defined by the lexicographer Arthur Leff in his legal dictionary is:
As a technical term, relief given to a defendant in connection B2029with a lawsuit, either as the result of a successful counterclaim, or just in connection with the initial suit, e.g., perhaps, an award of attorneys fees.
Otherwise, it is just relief (to a plaintiff) which is affirmative, e.g., specific performance.
