Accelerated tariff liberalization in Global Commerce Policy

APEC ministers decided in Kuala Lumpur in November 1998 to transfer the tariff elements of the first nine sectors of this initiative to the WTO. The nine sectors are forest products, fish and fish products, toys, gems and jewellery, chemicals, medical equipment and instruments, environmental goods and services, energy, and a telecommunications mutual recognition agreement. The entries on trade policy are here. In the Auckland Challenge APEC members agreed to pursue the intiative until the end of 2000.[1]
