Meaning of Substantive Law
As contrasted with adjective law , the body of law that prescribes, regulates and recognises substantive rights , duties and liabilities, and which are enforced by courts of law.
Substantive Law Alternative Definition
That portion of the body of the law which contains the rights and duties and the regulations of government, as opposed to that part which contains the rules and remedies by which the substantive law is administered. The latter is called, in opposition to “substantive law,” the “adjective law,” or the “remedial law.” The exact boundary between the two is difficult of definition, and has been the cause of much learned discussion.
