Shortened to stare decisis. To stand by precedents and not to disturb that which is settled: to follow decided cases; adhere to precedents. Where there has been a series of decisions by the highest tribunal, the rule stare decisis is regarded as impregnable – except by legislative enactment.Harrow v.
