Legal Definition and Related Resources of Half-blood

Meaning of Half-blood

A term denoting the degree of relationship which exists between those who have one parent only in common. By the English common law, one related to an intestate of the half-blood only could never inherit, upon the presumption that he is not of the blood of the original purchaser; but this rule has been greatly modified by 3 & 4 Wm. IV. c. 106. In this country, the common-law principle on this subject may be considered as not in force, though in many states some distinction is still preserved between the whole and the half-blood. 4 Kent, Comm. 403, note; 2 Yerg. (Tenn.) 115; 1 McCord (S. C.) 456; 31 Pa. St. 289; Dane, Abr. Index; 2 Washb. Real Prop. 411. See “Descent.”
