What does Accessory building mean in American Law?

The definition of Accessory building in the law of the United States, as defined by the lexicographer Arthur Leff in his legal dictionary is:

A structure on the same land as another building which it complements or serves, e.g., a garage may be an “accessory building” to a dwelling house. It may not, however; the question of what constitutes an “accessory building” is ordinarily litigated in zoning cases governed by a statute that uses the term, and the results are not wholly predictable.
