Meaning of Underlease
A lease granted by a lessee or tenant for years; the latter is called the underlessor, and the person to whom the underlease is granted is called the underlessee. The underlessee is not liable to the original lessor on the covenants, etc., of the original lease. By the Law of Property Act, 1925, s. 146, sub-s. 5 (d), “Underlease” includes an agreement for an underlease where the underlessee has become entitled to have his underlease granted
