Meaning of Home Secretary

The Secretary of State at the head of the Home Office. He is the medium of communication between the Crown and its subjects. He is responsible for the maintenance of the public peace, and for the general administration of the criminal law, the police and prisons, and advises the Sovereign in the exercise of the prerogative of mercy. He exercises control over aliens and administers the various Factory and Workshop Acts
