English Legal System: Good Behaviour

In the context of the English law, A Dictionary of Law provides the following legal concept of Good Behaviour : A term used in an order by a magistrate or by a Crown Court upon sentencing. The person named in the order should “be of good behaviour” towards another person (the complainant). The court may order that the person named enter into a *recognizance, and if he does not comply with the order he may be imprisoned for up to six months. The procedure may be used against anyone who has been brought before the court if there is a fear that he may cause a breach of the peace or if he is the subject of a complaint by someone (which need not be based on the commission of a criminal offence).
