Meaning of Borough Court

An inferior Court of record for the trial of civil actions which by charter, custom or otherwise, is, or ought to be, holden in a borough, but does not include a County Court. (Municipal Corporations Act, 1882, s. 7.)

In the context of the English law, A Dictionary of Law provides the following legal concept of Borough Court : An inferior *court of record for the trial of civil actions by charter, custom, or otherwise in a borough. All remaining borough courts were abolished in 1974 by the Local Government Act 1972.
