The definition of Abiding conviction in the law of the United States, as defined by the lexicographer Arthur Leff in his legal dictionary is:
A conviction, i.e., a belief, which is settled, fixed, “come home for good,” so to speak. The phrase is sometimes used in instructing juries as to the state of belief they must have to convict beyond a reasonable doubt. Sometimes abiding faith is used. Cf. abide.
