Traceability

Traceability

Traceability in Global Commerce Policy

In this regard, a definition of this issue is as follows: the ability to trace, for example, meat sold in retail shops back to an abattoir and thence to the farm where the animal was raised. Traceability has become an important part of efforts to raise and enforce food safety standards. The European Union has established a system to trace products containg or produced from genetically modified organisms (GMOs). The system permits control and verification of labelling claims, monitoring of potential effects on the environment and withdrawing relevant products in cases of unforeseen health or environment risks.[1]
