English Legal System: Bind Over
In the context of the English law, A Dictionary of Law provides the following legal concept of Bind Over : To order a person to provide a bond or *recognizance by means of which he guarantees to carry out some act (e.g. to appear in court at the proper time if he has been granted bail) or not to commit some offence (such as causing a breach of the peace).
Meaning of Bind Over in the U.S. Legal System
Definition of Bind Over published by the National Association for Court Management: To hold a person for trial on bond (bail) or in jail. If the judicial official conducting a hearing finds probable cause to believe the accused committed a crime, the official will bind over the accused, normally by setting bail for the accused’s appearance at trial.
