Meaning of Yield

To give way; to give up the contest; to submit; surrender; succumb; to cease opposition. State v. Horton, 258 P.2d371, 57 N.M. 257. In the law of real property, the term means to render a service due by a tenant to his lord. The word is still used in a corresponding sense in leases of real property as in the phrase yielding and paying a certain amount of rent to the lessor. The term is also synonymous for product, income, receipts, returns, proceeds. See Furst and Thomas v. Elliott, 56 P.2d 1064, 56 Idaho 491.

In the law of real property, to perform a service due by a tenant to his lord. Hence the usual form of reservation of a rent in a lease begins with the words yielding and paying.

The percentage rate of return paid on a stock in the form of dividends, or the effective rate of interest paid on a bond or note.

Legal Definition of Yield

Also known as return. The dividends or interest paid by a company expressed as a percentage of the current price. A stock with a current market value of $40 a share paying dividends at the rate of $3.20 is said to return 8% ($3.20 x $40.00). The current yield on a bond is figured the same way.Yield to maturity – The yield of a bond to maturity takes into account the price discount from or premium over the face amount. It is greater than the current yield when the bond is selling at a discount and less than the current yield when the bond is selling at a premium.
