Meaning of Universal Agent
One who is appointed to do all the acts which the principal can himself do. It is a rare kind of agency since in effect the universal agent becomes the master of all the rights and property of the principal. It is to be destinguished from a general agency where there is a delegation by the principal of power to do all acts connected with a particular trade, business or employment.
Universal Agent Alternative Definition
One who is appointed to do all the acts which the principal can personally do, and which he may lawfully delegate the power to another to do. Such an agency may potentially exist, but it must be of the rarest occurrence. Story, Ag. 18.
