Research and Development (R&D) Definition (in the Accounting Vocabulary)

The New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants offers the following definition of Research and Development (R&D) in a way that is easy for anybody to understand: Research is a planned activity aimed at discovery of new knowledge with the hope of developing new or improved products and services. Development is the translation of research findings into a plan or design of new or improved products and services.
