Littoral Alternative Definition
(litus). Belonging to shore; as, of sea and great lakes. Webster. Corresponding to riparian proprietors on a stream or small pond are littoral proprietors on a sea or lake. Although used coextensively with “riparian,” 7 Cush. (Mass.) 94, its employment is preferred to “riparian,” in respect to the shores of the sea, and also, according to important authorities, as including “riparian.” Gould Waters, § 148; 2 Ex. D. 63; 17 How. 432, 433; 7 Allen 158, 167; Smith v. Power, 14 Texas 146.
