The following is a definition of European Union, produced by Tetley, in the context of admiralty law: [Translation of European Union in French: “Union européenne”] [Translation of European Union in Spanish: “Unión europea”] [Ital:” Unione europea”] [Translation of European Union in German: “Europäische Union”] – The present name for the former “European Economic Community” (E.E.C.), consisting of Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom. As of May 1, 2004, the European Union includes ten additional countries, namely, the Czech Republic, Cyprus, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Hungary, Malta, Poland, Slovenia and Slovakia, thus bringing the total number of E.U. Member States to 25, and Bulgaria Romania joined the E.U. as of 1 January 2007, bringing the total number of Member States to 27. Website: https://www.europa.eu.int/.     Meaning of European Unión

    In the context of Europe, and according to A Dictionary of Law, the following is a definition of European Unión : (European Union, EU)

    The 25 nations (Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and the UK) that have joined together to form an economic community with common monetary, political, and social aspirations. The EU came into being on 1 November 1993 according to the terms of the *Maastricht Treaty. It comprises the three European Communities (See European Community), extended by the adoption of a common foreign and security policy (CFSP), which requires cooperation between member states in foreign policy and security, and cooperation in justice and home affairs.

    European Union in Global Commerce Policy

    In this regard, european union is: created by the Treaty of Maastricht, signed in February 1992. The entries on trade policy are here. It entered into force on 1 November 1993. The European Union consists of three parts: (i) the European Community (which remains the principal pillar), (ii) a common foreign and security policy and (iii) cooperation in the fields of justice and home affairs. The fifteen members of the European Union are Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom.
