A ship’s complement of men and officeirs. “In its general and popular sense, it is equivalent to ‘company.’ In the laws of the United States on maritime subjects, it is sometimes used to comprehend all persons com})osing the ship’s company, including the master; sometimes to comprehend the officers as common seamen, excluding the master; and sometimes to include the common seamen only, excluding the master and officers. But in the last two classes it will be found that the context contains language which explains and limits the general to the particular use.” 3 Sumn. (U.S.) 209.
