Meaning of Conflict Of Interest
A situation in which regard for one duty tends to lead to disregard of another. See U.S. v Miller, (C.A.Mass.) 463 F.2d 600. In relation to a public official , the term refers to a clash between public interest which that official is called upon to bear in mind in the performance of his duty and the private pecuniary interest of that individual.

Definition of Conflict of Interest in the context of the United States election law: Personal, direct or indirect interest of a member or staff of an Election Management Body (EMB), whether financial or otherwise, that is related to any matter that comes up for decision before that EMB. In such a case, the member or staff of the EMB concerned should disclose the conflict of interest and be prevented from participating in any discussion or decision on that matter.
