Competitiveness
Competitiveness in Global Commerce Policy
In this regard, a definition of this issue is as follows: the ability of a firm, a production sector or even a country to hold its own in terms of economic efficiency against other firms, sectors or countries. Governments sometimes try to improve the competitiveness of a sector through the use of export targeting, subsidies, protection or other measures. This can only be done at the expense of the remainder of the economy, and the longer-term effects of such practices is to reduce the economy’s competitiveness overall.[1]
