The definition of Caeteris Paribus in the law of the United States, as defined by the lexicographer Arthur Leff in his legal dictionary is:
In corporate accounting and law, that entry on the books of the corporation covering the stockholders” equity in the business, their investment, which at least formally (see capital) ought not to be available for distribution to them by dividend or otherwise.
