Meaning of Caduca
(Lat. cadere, to fall). In civil law. An inheritance; an escheat; everything which falls to the legal heir by descent. By some writers, bona eaduoa are said to be tiiose to which no heir succeeds, equivalent to escheats. Du Cange.

The definition of Caduca in the law of the United States, as defined by the lexicographer Arthur Leff in his legal dictionary is:
A (civil law) term for the lapse of a testamentary disposition. But the term is sometimes used to describe property that passes via that lapse, or escheats because of it. “Caducary” was used most frequently in this last meaning, to indicate forfeiture or escheat.
