The Roman numeral 100; also when put in small case, indicates circa ; century. When the letter appears within a circle, the work on which it appears is the subject of a copyright .
C Alternative Definition
The third letter of the alphabet. It was used on the ballots of Roman jurors to denote condemnation, being the initial letter of condemno. See “A.” C is sometimes used for “t” in old records, as “tercia” for “tertia,” and “tocius” for “totius Mag. Cart. 9 Hen. III. c. 7.

The definition of C in the law of the United States, as defined by the lexicographer Arthur Leff in his legal dictionary is:
Third letter of the English alphabet. An abbreviation (among many other things) of “chancellor,” as in Lord High Chancellor, and of “chapter” as of a book. C is also the third character in the more complex and interesting legal hypotheticals, those in which A, B, and C divide up the requisite roles, e.g., two knaves and a victim; a fool, a knave, and a victim; two victims and a knave, etc.
