Meaning of As near as may be

A statute providing that procedure in a named case shall conform “as near as may be” to those in another named case does not mean “as near as may be possible,” or “as near as may be practicable,” or require a strict compliance with the requirements of the latter named act, but is merely directory and advisory, and to be construed as contemplating some variation from the prescribed course, leav,ing it to the discretion of the court to reject such of the provisions of the act referred to as are not strictly applicable to the character of the proceedings involved. 173 111. 600; 149 111.
