Meaning of Apparent danger

That degree of peril of death or great bodily harm which will justify the killing of an assailant in self-defense. The danger need not be real, but must be sufficient to cause a reasonably prudent and courageous man to believe himself in imminent peril.

Danger that is apparent in the sense of obvious or clear. Sometimes used to describe the kind of danger to life and limb which justifies a killing in self-defense. Also, in the law of torts, a danger so obvious that a plaintiff who ignored it would himself be negligent. See also latent defect.
