A term in legal slang referring to an attorney (or to one, sometimes called a “runner,” who for the purpose is employed by an attorney) who actively seeks out the victims of accidents to solicit the business of representing them in any lawsuit which might arise out of the occurrence. The term is derogatory, because attorneys are thought to be ethically bound not actively to solicit business, but recent constitutional law holdings have validated at least some kinds of solicitation.
