The definition of Affection in the law of the United States, as defined by the lexicographer Arthur Leff in his legal dictionary is:

In ordinary language, positive and tender feelings; liking; but generally connoting a calmer and less intense emotion than passion or even love. See also love and affection.

In medical terminology, “affection” is just a variant term of affliction.
