What does A posteriori mean in American Law?
The definition of A posteriori in the law of the United States, as defined by the lexicographer Arthur Leff in his legal dictionary is:
“From afterwards,” i.e., from the effect to the cause. A mode of reasoning in which one looks to results and reasons back to what might have been their cause. Very loosely speaking, this is the reasoning mode of experimental science and utilitarian ethics, among other things. Compare a priori.
