Meaning of Volunteer

A person who gives his services without any express or implied promise of remuneration. An intruder who intermeddles. Also, one who offers himself freely and voluntarily for service in the Armed Forces.

Volunteer Alternative Definition

In Conveyances. Persons who receive a voluntary conveyance. It is a general rule of the courts of equity, that they will not assist a mere volunteer who has a defective conveyance. Fonbl. Persons who, in time of war, voluntarily enlist in the military service. Their rights and duties are prescribed by the municipal laws of the different states, but when in actual service, they are subject to the laws of the United States and the articles of war.
