Meaning of United States
The term may be used in one of several senses, either as the name of a sovereign occupying the position analogous to that of other sovereigns in the family of nations, or as designating the territory over which the sovereignty of the United States extend, or as the collective nane of the States which are united by and under the Federal Constitution.
