The exposition of law or the legal reason upon which the court rests its judgment . Also, a settlement or decision of a point of law arising from the trial of a case, without necesssarily the force and solemnity of a judgment or order . An order made by a judge at the instance of one of the parties commanding the other party or a ministerial officer of court to do some act, or show cause why some act should be done.
