Meaning of Riparian Rights
rights which are connected with or follow the ownership of the shores or banks of streams and rivers or any nontitled water course ; the rights of owners of the shores or banks of the seas or lakes are known as littoral rights. See Johnson v McCowen, (Fla.App.)348 So.2d357. These are rights conferred upon an owner by virtue of his ownership of the shore and denote the rights of accretion and right of access to the water from the land. Bowes v City of Chicago, 120 N.E.2d 15, 3 Ill.2d 175.
Riparian Rights Alternative Definition
The rights of the owners of lands on the banks of rivers and streams, 3 Kent, Comm. 427-432. See “Ri- / parian Proprietor.” gentium, sicut Ipslus fluminis.
