Meaning of Rests
In respect of accounting between parties , the term denotes the process of adjusting the accounts between them by calculating the interest at stated intervals, at which intervals it is said that accounting between parties, particularly interest, is given a rest. If the interest were to be in default , then the amount so in arrears is added to the principal and compound is calculated on the resulted sum.

Periodical balancings of an account (particularly in mortgage and trust accounts), made for the purpose of converting interest into priiicipal, and charging the party liable thereon with compound interest. Mozley & W.
