Meaning of Reply

In practise , it is a statement in writing delivered by or on behalf of a plaintiff to deny, explain or confess and avoid the matter of defense pleaded. The function of a reply is to deny such new matter as alleged in the answer or affirmative defenses as plaintiff did not admit and to answer any crossaction or complaint asserted by defendant . See Phillips v Hassett Min. Co., 92 S.E.2d 429, 244 N. C. 17.

Reply Alternative Definition

In its general sense, a reply is what the plaintiff, petitioner, or other person who has instituted a proceeding says in answer to the defendant’s case. In Code Pleading. The second pleading of the plaintiff, corresponding to the common-law replication. In Trial Practice. The argument of plaintiff in answer to that of defendant.
