Definition of Reference Group

The Canada social science dictionary [1] provides the following meaning of Reference Group: A term from social psychology identifying that group to which people refer or make reference in evaluating themselves. One may make reference to ‘social science students’ when contemplating what political party to vote for or one might refer to ‘feminists’ when deciding to change or not to change one’s name after marriage.
