The New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants offers the following definition of Proprietorship in a way that is easy for anybody to understand: Business owned by an individual without the limited liability protection of a CORPORATION or a LIMITED LIABILITY COMPANY (LLC). Also known as SOLE PROPRIETORSHIP.
