Meaning of Picketing

The posting of persons in the vicinity of a place of work during a trade dispute in order to interfere with those wishing to work. The Conspiracy and Protection of Property Act, 1875, made picketing an offence ; but the Trades Dispute Act, 1906, s. 2, provided that it should be lawful for one or more persons to attend at a place of work or residence merely for the purpose of peacefully obtaining or communicating information, or of peacefully persuading any person to work or abstain from working
