Definition of Parole published by the National Association for Court Management: The supervised conditional release of a prisoner before the expiration of his or her sentence. If the parolee observes the conditions, he or she need not serve the rest of his or her term.
Meaning of Parole in the Past
The agreement of people who have been taken by an enemy that they will not again take up arms against those who captured them, either for a limited time or during the continuance of the war. Vattel, liv. 3, c. 8, 151.[1]
