Concept of “Paine Forte et Dure”
Traditional meaning of paine forte et dure in the French law history (with some legal use in England and the United States in the XIX Century) [1]: (in French) A punishment for a person accused of felony who stood mute and refused to plead. It was not administered until after threefold warning (trina admonitio), and consisted of being crushed with weights and starved.
