At early common law:-the forcible abduction or stealing of a man, woman, or child from his own country and sending him into another; an aggravated species of false imprisonment. The offense under statutes generally: the taking or detaining of a person against his will and without lawful authority. A willful and intentional detention for an unlawful purpose against one’s will and without authority of law.
