United States Constitutional Meaning of Incorporation

(1) A doctrine according to which certain specific provisions of the Bill of Rights are made applicable against state authority by virtue of the “due process” clause of the Fourteenth Amendment; (2) a doctrine according to which certain territories are made so intimately a part of the United States that certain constitutional protections become applicable to the inhabitants.
