Meaning of Immediate Cause

The last event in a series of events, which, without further events, produced the result in question . Different from proximate cause , e.g., a man is so intoxicated with alcohol that he loses his balance , falls down into a ditch, suffering a fatal fracture of the skull. The proximate cause of his death is the consumption of alcohol for it can be said that had he not indulged in same he would not have lost his balance; however, the immediate cause of death is the fracture of the skull.
