Meaning of Hostile Witness
A witness who has been called in the expectation that he will give testimony favorable to the party calling him, but who proves to be unwilling or adverse , to the complete surprise of the calling party. See Poitier v state , (Fla.App.) 303 So.2d 409.
Hostile Witness Alternative Definition
A witness who manifests so much hostility or prejudice under examination in chief that the party who has called him, or his representative, is allowed to cross-examine him, L e., to treat him as though he had been called by the opposite party. Rapalje & L.
