Meaning of Estate In Expectancy

In relation to the time of their enjoyment estates are divided into those in expectancy and those in possession . An estate which entitles the owner to immediate possession of the property is an estate in possession . If the right to possession of the property is postponed to a future time, pending the determination of an intermediate estate, such as that of a life tenant , then it is one in expectancy. A reversionary or a remainder estate is one in expectancy.
