Meaning of Domestic
Pertaining, belonging or relating to a home. Thus, a domestic servant is one who is employed in and about the house on household affairs, whose business it is to serve the employer and his family .
Domestic Alternative Definition
Pertaining to domicile or family. One who resides in the house with the master he serves. The term does not extend to workmen and laborers employed out of doors. 41 Tex. 558. Animals. An animal (whether a quadruped or not and not absolutely ferae naturae) which either by habit or training lives in association with man is a domestic animal. Fowls and poultry are within the term, 3 B. & S. 386; 32 L. J. M. C. 95, as are pet birds, such as a canary or linnet. Parrots may become, but young unacclimated parrots are not. 50 L. J. M. C. 67; 120 D. B. 67. A tame unconfined sea-gull which will go to its owner when called, feed out of the hand and submit to be photographed, being used by the owner for that purpose in the owner’s business of a photographer, is not a “domestic animal” within the meaning of a statute providing that if any person shall cruelly ill-treat any domestic animal he shall be liable to a penalty [1896]. 1 Q. B. 166. Performing lions, kept in a cage, are not domestic animals within the meaning of the same acts. 2 Q. B. 319; nor are wild rabbits caught in nets, and kept in confinement and fed during five or six days immediately following the capture. 2 Q. B. 57. Products. The word is appropriately used in an act of the state legislature to describe only a product exclusively belonging to, and within the sovereign jurisdiction of the state. 64 Pa. St. 103.
