Meaning of Disclosure

The act of making known, of revealing. Revelation. That which is disclosed or revealed. The term has acquired special meaning in statutes designed to protect consumers such as truth in Lending Act under which the term is one of art referring to the manner in which certain information deemed basic to an intelligent assessment of a credit transaction is to be conveyed to the consumer. See Doggett v Ritter finance Co. of Louisiana, (D.C. Va.)384 F. Supp. 150.

Legal Definition of Disclosure

The process of providing full and frank financial details about a person's capital, income, assets and liabilities. This is either done voluntarily, or pursuant to a court order.
