Meaning of Discharge

v. release , cancel , extinguish an obligation , revoke or to rescind . Also, the termination of employment at the will of an employer with prejudice to worker because of some fault on the part of the worker or on some other ground upon which employer chooses to base his right to terminate, and means that the employer no longer needs or desires the employee’s service and that all contractual relations between them are at an end. See Anderson v Twin City Rapid transit Co., 84 N. W.2d 593, 250 Minn. 167. In the context of bankruptcy , the term denotes a release of a bankrupt from all his debts which are provable in bankruptcy except such as are excepted by the Bankruptcy Act. A discharge extinguishes the debts and liabilities of the bankrupt except insofar as such debts or liabilities are preserved by statute .
