Court/court (upper case/lower case) in the One-L Dictionary

When the word “court” by itself is capitalized in a sentence, it is generally referring to either the United States Supreme Court or to the court to which the document is being submitted. Lower case “court” refers to courts in a general sense. When naming a specific court, such as the Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, the word court is also capitalized.
