Meaning of Compulsory
involuntary , coerced by legal process or by force of statute . In relation to counterclaims in actions, if the same arises out of the transaction or occurrence that is the subject matter of the opposing party ‘s claim it is said to be compulsory; other wise it is permissive. See van Dooren v van Dooren, 246 S.E.2d 20, 37 N.C.App. 333. Also see U.S. v Chatham, (D.C.Ga.) 415 F. Supp. 1214.
Compulsory Alternative Definition

In order to render a payment compulsory, such a pressure must be exerted on the payor as to interfere with the free enjoyment of his ‘rights of person or property, in the sense of depriving him of the exercise of his free will, and the compulsion must furnish the motive for the payment. 234 111. 543.
